Welcome To The Garden

General information about the Garden and its history.

Cuban Chugs Exhibit

Makeshift boats, called “chugs” because of the noise they make, are a monument to the Cubans who risked their lives in search of freedom in the United States. This exhibit represents many decades of history and is the only known collection of this size anywhere.

Desbiens Pond Tour

Desbiens Pond is in the northeast corner of the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden. This pond and surrounding area is one of the most primitive areas of the Garden which gives the visitor a good example of what the Keys were like centuries ago. The pond was named in honor of Betty Desbiens, a founder of the Key West Botanical Garden Society.
