On Saturday April 17th the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden will host its third series of events for Migration Mania! Migration Mania is a month long series of educational activities, speakers, games, presentations, crafts, and animal encounters that fosters an appreciation of wildlife, flora, and fauna in the lower Florida Keys!

The theme for Saturday April 17th Migration Mania is "The Great Butterfly Show & Release." From 10:00- 2:00 Families can visit a number of butterfly themed activity stations throughout the day. Kids of all ages will enjoy the "Butterfly House Building Station" presented by Home Depot. Children will learn to sand, hammer nails, and use a screwdriver while building a butterfly house that they can bring home and hang in their backyard. Families can stop by the "Butterfly Face Painting Station" where they can select from a variety of butterflies to have painted, including the Miami Blue, Giant Swallowtail, Gulf Fritillary, and the Monarch Butterfly. Or families can choose to make and decorate their very own binoculars to use to observe the plants, trees, butterflies, birds and creatures in the garden. At the "Butterfly Life Cycle Tattoo Station” children can select their own butterfly body art and learn about the life cycle of butterflies. Plus children can get some exercise in the bounce house as they await the anticipated presentations.

At 10:00 am the Sigsbee and Glynn Archer chorus will perform in the courtyard! They will sing a number of musical selections and their voices will ring throughout the garden!

At 11:00 families may participate in the Cocoon-to-Butterfly game where families will compete and work together to be the first to remove the butterfly from the cocoon. Prizes will be awarded to the winning families!

At 12:00 Jeff Shots, noted butterfly specialist will guide families on a guided butterfly walk through the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden to investigate various types of butterflies. The culminating event will take place at 1:00 with Jeff Shots butterfly demonstration and native butterfly release for all to enjoy! You too can release your very own butterfly!
